Plea in Apex Court requests a new investigation on the US government’s indictment of Gautam Adani.

In light of recent indictments in the United States, a request has been filed before the Apex Court to add more papers to the record and draw attention to fresh information about the Adani Group’s alleged malpractices. Advocate Vishal Tiwari’s plea was submitted in the ongoing legal action against the Adani Group in the wake of the Hindenburg study from 2023. Recent events in the United States, where federal authorities have accused Gautam Adani and others of bribery and securities fraud regarding solar energy contracts, are what the petitioner aims to draw the Court’s attention to.

Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani, and other executives allegedly planned a $265 million bribery scheme between 2020 and 2024 to obtain solar energy contracts in India, which were expected to generate $2 billion in profits over a 20-year period, according to the US indictment. Adani and others have also been charged with securities crimes by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which claims they deceived investors and covered up bribery schemes. The defendants are accused of obstructing justice by allegedly destroying evidence and giving false statements during investigations, in addition to conspiracy to commit securities and wire fraud. In order to rebuild public trust in the regulatory process, the petitioner has urged Indian authorities to look into the claims.

It has been noted that no final report has been submitted, even though the Supreme Court ordered SEBI to finish its investigation into the case by April 2024. Furthermore, the petitioner has contended that fresh data suggests potential connections between the Adani Group’s purported short-selling activities and similar claims made in the US and SEBI’s inquiry into them. In light of the fresh charges made public by the US indictment and SEC lawsuit, the petitioner has sought the Supreme Court to accept the extra documents on file and order Indian authorities to look into them.
